Dear Justin,This month has been one of many "firsts" for you.
- 1st haircut
- 1st taste of big people food {water melon rind and a lick of orange popsicle}
- 1st time rolling over {from your tummy to your back- just once!}
- 1st prolonged babble- you are convinced that you are communicating very pertinent and important information every time
- 1st professional sports game {Dodgers vs. Red Socks}
- 1st time in the ocean {Manhattan Beach}
- 1st time grabbing your toes {my personal favorite of the firsts}
- 1st time upside down and you LOVE it!
- 1st time in a regular stroller- you and I both love the BOB
That's all I can think of right now. But anyway, it has been a fun month filled with many smiles and a couple laughs. It's still hard to get a real giggle out of you- but that's ok, it just makes us cherish them even more. Your smile, on the other hand, is readily available at any time and fills your whole face! You continue to have a happy and pleasant disposition. Even when we have missed naps, your bedtime, or pushed a meal back, you continue to be a happy little guy. When you were first born, everyone commented on how much hair you had. Now, much of that hair is gone, and everyone seems to be focused on your beautiful, BIG, blue eyes. Everywhere we go you get comments about how amazing they are. And usually, you thank them for the compliment by turning on the charm and flashing a big smile.
Yes, you are very social- don't know where you could have gotten that trait?! You definitely found your voice this month. First, you would just shout to see just how loud you could be. You quickly realized you could be very loud if you wanted to be. So, you moved on to longer sounds. Now, you can continuously talk for several minutes at a time. In fact, we have whole conversations with starts, stops, pauses for thinking, and then emphatic answers complete with strong, fast arm movements to emphasize your point of view. We are very fortunate in that even though you have found your voice, rarely do you exercise a cry.
As for your sleeping habits- we are working on mastering the nap, and you're doing pretty well. You've settled into a semi-reliable schedule with 3 naps a day. During the night, you no longer need to eat, you go an amazing 10 hours w/out breastfeeding, but you still need some help settling back to sleep when you wake up throughout the night. We're hoping that this next month you will learn to soothe yourself back to sleep. You don't like to be completely swaddled and on your back to sleep anymore, you like to have one arm out of the swaddle if you are on your side and of course, both arms out if you're on your tummy. (Even though it worries us a little bit to have you on your tummy, it seems to be your most comfortable sleeping position.) One of the best things about your sleeping habits...you wake up happy!
You are still a snuggle bug and love to sleep with Mom after your first feeding around 6 a.m. Just laying in the bed next to me doesn't do, oh no, you have to be completely cuddled up next to me, in my arms, with my head resting on yours, holding my hand, and then you'll happily go back to sleep for a couple more hours. It's one of my favorite times of the day.
Well JR, another month of growth and development. It is so fun to see. Keep it up kiddo- we love you so much!
