Dear Garrett,
You
are one month old already! Where did the time go? You are as big as a 2 or 3
month old, you weighed 11.1 at your 2 week well baby check up, but definitely
still act like a newborn with the constant eating and pooping. We are so happy
to have you as a part of our family, and I am so happy to have you out of my
tummy. I was definitely all baby during the pregnancy since I only gained about
20 pounds, and you were over 10 of it.
So
far you have been a healthy, happy baby with only a few minor issues. We made
quite a few trips to the Kaiser lab the first couple of weeks while we
monitored your bellie rubin levels and waited for them to go down. I wasn’t
ever worried about it, but the doctor still insisted on pricking your cute
little feet for blood samples until the number started going down. Around week
3 you developed a pretty awful case of what I think is baby acne. We are going
to the doctor tomorrow to make sure it isn’t something else, but uyou are still
pretty darn cute, even with terrible skin.
For
the first couple of weeks, you were a dream baby. As long as you were fed and
had a clean diaper, you would just hang out wherever I put you and eventually
fall asleep on your own until it was time to eat again. You weren’t even into
using a binky very often. Then, around week 3 you decided you had given your
brother enough adjustment time, and now it was your turn to have some
attention. You are still very chill and don’t fuss much, but you definitely
like to be held and have become a little bit more high maintenance. You are
very alert and lately haven’t been sleeping for long stretches during the day.
(Probably because your brother has a hard time being quite when I’m trying to
get you to sleep.) Thankfully, you usually don’t stay awake at night after you
eat for too long. You’re waking up about every 3 hours at night and taking
about 45 minutes to an hour to eat and burp and get settled back to sleep
again. Needless to say, it’s starting to wear me out, so I’m hoping we get some
longer sleep stretches soon.
I
have nick named you “Squeaker” because you make the funniest little noises.
Usually it’s when you have gas or are trying to poop, but sometimes you just
randomly squeak. We love it. You love taking a bath. You are an excellent eater
and could nurse from the moment you were born without a problem.
Your
brother is nothing but sweet to you. He has gotten a bit of an attitude towards
me sometimes since your arrival, but he is nothing but loving and kind towards
you. He calls you “Buddy” and “Baby Garrett” in the cutest little high pitched
voice and is always concerned about where you are and makes sure that you are
coming with us if we are going somewhere. Since Justin loves his binky,
whenever you cry he says, “Baby Garrett needs his binky. To make him happy.”
You do take a binky, but aren’t the best at keeping it in your mouth yet. I’m
sure you’ll get the hang of it.
We
are all looking forward to the day you smile. There have been a couple of times
where I think you might have smiled at me on purpose, but I’m not positive.
Your sleep smiles are adorable though, so I know when you do learn how to smile
it is going to be the best!
