Happy Birthday Ryan

This past week was Ryan's 30th birthday! The big 3-0. His twenties are behind him and a new decade begins. I have of course taken the liberty of teasing him a little bit, especially since I have a little over a year left in my twenties! He said he didn't want a big fuss made over his birthday, but he, like I, actually LOVE to be fussed over on birthdays. So, I catered to him as much as I could all day! I made his lunch, left little notes in his laptop, in his lunch, sent him text messages, had one of my classes leave him a voicemail with them all singing "Happy Birthday" to him. I had a snack of chips and salsa w/ a Henry Weinhart's root beer set out on the coffee table and the Lakers game on when he walked in the door. I cooked a birthday meal of his choosing....BBQ ribs slowly cooked in the oven (we're talkin' 3+ hours slow, with rotations and re-basting every 30 min.), salad, crescent rolls, and corn on the cob. I set the table kinda fancy with our crystal glasses and fabric napkins. And, somehow I managed to have a birthday present wrapped and set out neatly on the table. I was quite pleased with the amount of fussing throughout the day actually, and so was he! But, he deserves it. He is the sweetest, most loving, caring, considerate, fun, smart, honest, charming, ....I could go on and on. All that to say, I'm so glad he was born 30 years ago, grateful that we found each other, and excited that we get to be together forever! I love you lots Ryan, Happy Birthday!

I also put together a surprise cake and ice cream party for him on Sunday night. Unfortunately, he overheard me on the phone just a few hours before telling someone our apartment # and put it together. I was bummed. I had been so sneaky with my planning. He made a good attempt at faking the surprise anyway, and I don't think our friends could tell, but he told me he knew after everybody had left because I could tell he wasn't genuinely surprised. Guess I'll have to try again another year. It was still fun and once again, he enjoyed being fussed over! Don't we all?

On a side note....kinda fun that 3 of us in this picture are pregnant!
