Holidays '09

So, I realized that I didn't ever post about Thanksgiving, and since I'm already a couple weeks late posting for Christmas, I figured I'd put them into one. The holidays were great as always. For Thanksgiving, we went to Walnut Creek and spent the weekend with my family.

Luke got a 7-week old chocolate lab for his birthday the day before Thanksgiving, so we spent a lot of time playing with the puppy.

It was also the weekend of the highly anticipated BYU vs. UT football game. Since I'm a devoted Cougar fan and Ryan is a devoted Ute fan, we both get pretty intense when it comes to this rivalry game. Last year, Ryan was victorious, so I thought it only fitting that I have a chance to sing out the Cougar fight song...and I did...everytime they scored and at the end to ring in the victory! Go COUGS!!!

Christmas was a nice break for both Ryan and me. Two whole weeks off was awesome! To get into the Christmas spirit, we put up our tree. Ryan does the lights and I do the decorations.

We took a night and went to the Grove to see the HUGE tree there and got sprayed with their artificial snow! (Only in LA)

We left sunny southern Califormia and spent most of the break in Salt Lake with Ryan's family. It was my first Christmas away from my family, but luckily my in-laws are low-key and a lot of fun, so it made being away from my own family easier. We went to see Santa...Addy wasn't too excited about sitting on his lap.

Christmas Eve was spent at Nana's house. Ryan's mom's family was all in town for the first time in about 10 years, so it was fun to be all together. Traditionally, Ryan's family goes to Nana's for dinner, reads the Christmas story, sings carols, and then each family has to perform in some way. It was pretty entertaining since all the grandkids are now adults, but still have to come up with a performance of some sort. There was everything from lip syncs to sing-a-longs, to a hand bell rendition of "Jingle Bells."

Christmas morning, we had scones and stayed in out jammies for most of the day. It was so fun to see our niece, Addy, open gifts and play with her "baby." She is 15 mo. old and seriously one of the cutest little girls ever. Can you believe that hair? It is out of control adorable!

After Christmas, we relaxed, went to the movies, did family pictures with the Plewes, put together a pretty tough puzzle, and just enjoyed having some down time. My sister-in-law and mother-in-law put together a baby shower for me with their extended family and a few of my friends that happen to live in the area. It was so nice of them and a lot of fun. Yummy food, great company, and some wonderful baby gifts!

We drove up to Boise to see my Grandparents for a few days as well. My Grandpa Bob has had a difficult year with his health, so it was great to be able to spend time with them. Both my Nana and Bob are 89 years old, but still spunky as ever. Nana is losing her hearing, and Bob is impatient, so it's a pretty entertaining mix. One night Bob was saying how Nana doesn't like Walmart and she piped up from across the room and said, "What? I like walnuts!" Just one classic moment that made Ryan and I smile!

Nana and I went and got manicures one day, so Ryan and Bob hung out and looked at photo albums. Bob told him WWII stories, and enjoyed having someone to talk football with!

Just before we headed back to CA, my sister came back to UT from CA. So, we were able to squeeze in a quick trip down to Orem to see my Katie, Spencer, and baby Ryan. Little Ryan, aka Tank, is OBSESSED with balls and is actually a really good shot for a 19 month old.

SO, all in all, nothing too eventful. But, we had a great time, having time, to spend time with family. (so poetic! haha!)

I recognize some of those maternity shirts =). I'm glad they are getting good use. I'll be in Utah tomorrow until Tues. Another funeral, I'll call you and tell you about it. I'm staying with Regan in Sugar House so I'll keep my eyes peeled for Ryan's fam. BTW we saw Jake at Christmas in WA and he says hi to you guys.
